Commissions are a unique experience for me because i get to work with someone else’s idea. Left to my own devices I know what i will paint, however throw in someone else’s head into the mix, and everything changes, Its challenging and fascinating. I’m always very curious about other peoples minds, so i intently pay attention to whom ever asks me to make one of these creations. I try to put into the piece a little bit of them, or at the very least a little bit of what they desire to be in their own lives.

The Process: Ideally we meet in person, but because that can not always happen so easily, either by phone an email works too.

I ask for half upfront before i start to venture down that road. This also covers any materials or other costs.

After we talk and I get a sense of your idea, i make sketches, Together we see if the sketches start to hit the idea in the right spot. This is where the real work is done. Basically were trying to find you or construct a piece of you from thin air on a 2d surface. We’ll go over color and composition and tone. If were painting you or a specific image of your choosing, i need photographs or the ability to take my own.  I don’t start until you approve the concept sketches. We also need to decide upon the medium, Usually I work in mixed media*, But i can go in any desired restraint in terms of media. Sizes for canvas pieces are as follows ; 11”x14”, 16”x20”, 20”x24”, 24”x26” On paper, any size you specify up to 22”x30”

* mixed media example: watercolor, color pencil, ink, with acrylic elements,   sprayed with fixative varnish on special primed canvas

“Remember” (detail)

In about one weeks time i will email you images of the paintings progress. At this stage it is about at the 50% done. Any other ideas or thoughts you have on the piece or subject matter in general are of great importance. So speak up, and if its personal, tell me anyway, all the better for the art.
The final product will always look like it came from my hand, but its driving force should be yours.

When i am 75% done, I’ll email you once again, and we make any final push and pulls with the chosen medium and colors. Once I am done I will email you final image. Upon receiving the remaining cost of the painting, I package the magic up very carefully and mail it off to you by either usps or fed ex. Cost of shipping is included in the price.
